Seoul (EFE).- Experts from 30 countries came together at the Global Forum of Communications Media in Seoul to launch an international network for discussion about the concerns in the sector.
The aim was for "professionals from different areas to meet to discuss the media's role in global affairs of mutual interest," the president of the Korea Foundation, the semi-public cultural entity which organized the event along with state-run network Arirang TV, said in a speech.
One of the issues raised on the forum's first day was the nuclear test North Korea held on Feb. 12, an event that sparked an exchange of opinions on Northeast Asian regional security and the role of the communications media in broadcasting and assessing this type of occurrence.
In addition to the forum's central event, which dealt with the national and global objectives of the media and journalists all over the world, four panel discussions were held at which participants discussed matters such as the security of Northeast Asia and cultural diversity as it relates to the communications media.
The Forum "aspires to initiate creative discussions and innovative ideas and to build a unique and effective network" among the communications media on the global level, as well as to establish connections that allow divisions to be overcome, the president of Arirang TV, Sohn Jie-ae, said at the meeting.
Standing out among the approximately 450 presenters and invited guests who attended the event were different personalities from the communications media of Spain and Latin America, including the president of Agencia Efe, Jose Antonio Vera, and the president of the Mexican network Veracruz TV, Juan Octavio Pavon.
Along with participating in the forum, Agencia Efe and South Korean state television network Arirang TV signed an initial cooperation accord that seals the ties of friendship between the two parties and lays the basis for future exchanges of audiovisual material.
The president of Efe signed the agreement at the end of the Global Forum of Communications Media and took advantage of his attendance as a specially invited guest to outline with Arirang TV president Sohn Jie-ae points of bilateral interest with an eye toward future collaboration.
The exchanges will cover mainly audiovisual services such as the transfer or sale of images by TVEFE to Arirang TV and vice versa, among other things. EFE
